Design Spectrum* - Anna Ovchinnikova

After presentation to You here my first project that I called 3D SKETCH, when 2D dimensional hand sketch gets 3D dimensional value, on this step I would like to make a little conclusion…

so, what is RGB? It’s a 3 color that create our view of 3 dimensional perception. As we know RGB color model itself does not define what is meant by Red, Green, and Blue,  and so the results of mixing them are not specified as absolute, but relative to the primary colors. Primary colors are sets of colors that can be combined to make a useful range of colors.

For human applications, three primary colors vision is calling trichromatic. In situation when the exact chromaticities of the Red, Green, and Blue primaries are defined, the color model then becomes an absolute color space, such as Adobe RGB.

The main purpose of the RGB color model is for the sensing, representation, and display of images in electronic systems, such as televisions and computers, though it has also been used in conventional photography. Before the electronic age, the RGB color model already had a solid theory behind it, based in human perception of colors.

Typical RGB input devices are color TV and video cameras, image scanners, and digital cameras. Typical RGB output devices are TV sets of various technologies CRT, LCD, plasma, etc., computer and mobile phone displays, video projectors, multicolor LED  displays, and large screens as JumboTron, etc. Color printers, on the other hand, are not RGB devices, but subtractive color devices. Also interesting fact, that has been estimated humans can distinguish roughly 10 million different colors, impressive indeed )))

I want to start this with recognizing and understanding, what is The Visual Spectrumis, how human understand and it mentally and how perceive physically.

Design of physical perception the cells of the human eye are designed to process the full spectrum on natural light. The various cells in the human eye, called photoreceptors work together to process visual information. There are cells in the eye that are sensitive to the color Red, cells that best capture Greens, and cells that best capture Blues. When these cells are working best together, the brain is more efficient at processing the visual information being received.

Design of mental or scientific understanding here you can see a very nice photo of a prism creating a spectrum. In this image, a light source is emitting white light, which includes photons of all colors of the rainbow. As those photons pass through the prism, the change from air to glass and back to air again alters their path. Different photons have their paths altered by different distances, so after they pass through the prism, the Red photons hit the screen in one place, the Yellow in another, and so on to the end of the screen, where we see the Violet photons. This effect is referred to as dispersion.

Electromagnetic Radiation is a phenomenon that takes the form of self-propagating waves in a vacuum or in matter. It consists of electric and magnetic field components which oscillate in phase perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy propagation. Electromagnetic radiation is classified into several types according to the frequency of its wave; these types include in order of increasing frequency and decreasing wavelength: radio waves, microwaves, terahertz radiation, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays and gamma rays. A small and somewhat variable window of frequencies is sensed by the eyes of various organisms; this is what we call the visible spectrum, or light. You can read about it more in WikipediA…

I have to bring attention to Electromagnetic Spectrum it’s the range of all possible frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. The “electromagnetic spectrum” of an object is the characteristic distribution of electromagnetic radiation emitted or absorbed by that particular object. The electromagnetic spectrum extends from below frequencies used for modern radio to gamma radiation at the short-wavelength end, covering wavelengths from thousands of kilometers down to a fraction of the size of an atom. The long wavelength limit is the size of the universe itself, while it is thought that the short wavelength limit is in the vicinity of the Planck length, although in principle the spectrum is infinite and continuous. here you also see a diagram explanation.

‘mischlichtRGBby Fabian Nehne (DE) und Martin Meier (CH)

The German and Swiss productdesigners Fabian Nehne and Martin Meier recently finished this pendant light, a consequent translation of the additive colour mixing into an adequate luminaire. Martin Meier is currently working as a seniour designer lead at IDEO Munich, Fabian Nehne is senior designer at Deutsche Telekom.
